GIS & Mapping

Geographic Information System (GIS) is an essential part of Applied Ecology Ltd’s survey and assessment tool kit.  It provides us with a powerful method of recording and analysing spatial data, and enables us to produce clear, accurate and professional maps.

Our use of GIS includes the production of geo-referenced habitat and vegetation maps, calculating habitat areas, overlaying multiple map layers to determine habitat loss and gain in relation to Environmental Impact Assessment, and undertaking detailed studies of large and complex data-sets for the purpose of strategic development planning or ecological research.

Applied Ecology Ltd has dedicated GIS staff and can offer a full GIS service using the latest ESRI ArcGIS software.  Our field ecologists are also trained in the use of GIS, and we run ruggedised mobile computers with ArcPad software that can be used in the field to enable fast and accurate data capture.
