AEL was commissioned by Anderson, Bell + Christie architects to provide ecological support for BREEAM for the new East Pollokshields GP surgery.

We worked closely with Mike Hyatt Landscape Architects and Anderson, Bell + Christie to devise and assess a scheme that could deliver biodiversity benefits within a tightly constrained urban site.

The development site

During the surveys required for BREEAM, we found broad-leaved helleborine on the site Рa type of orchid which is usually found in woodlands and scrub. However, it is also noted nationally for its odd preference for waste ground in and around the city of Glasgow, particularly in areas which were once gardens, and we were interested to see it turn up in East Pollokshields.  The scheme has now attained planning permission.
